Range Rovers also come with optional cloth seats now... the cloths are more expensive than the leather.

Strange times we live in.

I mean, it’s wool... so at least their asses stay pampered.

Leather is pretty, but if I could’ve gotten my stinger with cloth I would’ve. Something like this mini cloth:

Somehow they made plaid and it is reserved.

Do they buy Volvo Wagons? I thought they all bought just Ranger Rovers, X5Ms, AMG SUVs and such, at least that’s what I learned from Top Gear.

You know what? I’m not a fan of leather seats. They’re supposed to be a luxury item, but I don’t see it:

- burns your ass and back in the summer, and it’s sticky and sweaty

- harder than Superman’s abs in the winter, you end up with influenza in your ass sitting on those slabs of skin

- based on the old-fashioned idea that using dead animal skins is a status symbol, but basically every fucking car comes with leather now, so it’s not special any more. There is so much leather on every surface of some cars it’s almost sad, why are you trying so hard to show off?

-yes, it’s stain-resistant to a certain degree (especially when black) but I don’t care. I don’t collect or restore or preserve automobiles, I use them as tools.

So there, I said it. Now get off my lawn.

This is a real contender for my wife’s next car. Both this and the V90 are just... perfect.

I do wish the V90 had more space behind the rear seats - one of the biggest reasons we bought a 2012 XC70. But not ALL of our cars need that space. This would be replacing an X3.

Chavs are poor (David Beckham not withstanding), so they couldn’t afford this. They might try to duplicate it in their 1990s banger Volvo, though.

I’ve gotten into internet arguments about this before on the thread about wagons having too slanted a rear deck these days. But from the specs I was able to find online at the time I was shocked to learn that the new V60 actually has MORE space behind the rear seats than the V90 does. I guess it makes sense because of the crazy rake on the V90’s rear hatch. I love the size and styling of the V60 more anyway, and if it has more space with a kid or two in the rear seat it’s a no brainer for us. Curious if those numbers were just wrong and they’ve been corrected at this point.

Wow, interesting on the V60 vs V90. I do know the V90 is much smaller than the outgoing XC70 - no contest - and I was told they pushed the rear seats back so that cramped the cargo area even more. Maybe if the V60 has a smaller backseat, and a less-raked rear window... it’s possible.

I was also told that for a certain few years, the X3 had a larger cargo area than the X5. I can’t remember which ones and can’t be bothered to look it up, but I can believe it. And we’re not talking 3rd row stuff, either.

Interesting factoid on the X3. I can believe it…I think especially that first gen was pretty huge on the inside for such a tiny vehicle (plus available with a stick!).

I guess it makes sense that they wanted to make the rear seat on the V90 larger making it usable for actual adults. But as a family car as long as the backseat can accommodate kids the rear cargo space is far more important to myself at least. Not like a V90 will ever be in our budget anyway (and it’s too huge I think) – so just hoping a V60 will be the perfect size and price after a few years once they hit the used market.

Our ‘07 X3 isn’t that much bigger inside than my E46 wagon... I mean, it’s bigger, for sure. You get more elbow room, front and rear. But in the all-important area behind the back seat, it’s mostly vertical space. Hard to get much use out of that space unless you’re hauling pillows.

In fact, the way my wagon rear window opens independently of the door means I can probably fit the same volume of trash and recycling when I go to the dump. I close the door, using it as a barrier, then open the window and fill it to the ceiling. I can’t do that in the X3.

However, one nice feature of the X3 is something you hit on - it’s a manual. Our wagon is, too, but that’s less rare. This is a big reason why we keep fixing them both and just piling on the miles; our manual replacement options are pretty limited.
